My first blog...

Serendipity has been a great friend. For purposes of this blog, we will refer to her as Miss Dipity . Seren sounds too Greek mythological. My friends on Facebook have been on my case for quite awhile to write a book or at least start a blog. I was reluctant only because I did not know how. I read some articles but they suggested I purchase my blog space. I am simply too cheap.

The other day I was lost on my computer. Not in an esoteric manner chasing dreams and cyber generated E-butterflies but lacking that certain tech savvy. If you are my age, you have been there at least once. In the process of trying to find myself, I stumbled across Google Blogger (or whatever it is called. I am afraid to go back and look, fearing I will get lost again). As soon as I found this blogger thingy, I lost it. Or so I thought. Miss Dipity was quietly looking out after me.

This Blog really is about my hike across Colorado so be patient as I wax prophetic. Sometimes when I write, I take the long way around to get to my point. I blame it on my western heritage and my southern roots. From time-to-time, I have to explain to people that folks from the eastern United States are not so much rude but more straight to the point. With a bang on the front door, the neighbor from the east simply says, "I need a cup of sugar." My friends from the west with southern roots or my friends from the south with western roots will gently wrap on your door and patiently wait your much anticipated arrival. Upon the opening of the door, the conversation will first be about the weather, the flowers, the turkey running amuck in the neighborhood or whatever it is that  has something to do with nothing. After a few minutes of banter, the sugar will magically appear and life goes on. Not that one is better than the other, it is just how I prefer to wear my hat.

Back to this blog thing. I hope to blog about my time on the Colorado Trail and all that led up to it. There are stories everywhere and everyone has a story. This is mine.

So, the other day my insightful daughter asked my "Daddy, why don't you just do a blog?" I simply replied by explaining I really want to but I don't know how and I don't want to let go of the money." Being inquisitive, she asked me "Who told you had to pay for a blog space?"  I responded by saying the people that sell blog spaces. With a raised eyebrow she looked at me and uttered the best words I had heard all day, "Just use the one on Google. It is free." You know, she was right. So here goes my attempt at blogging. I am guessing Miss Dipity and the Boo (that it what I call my daughter) must have had a chat on the way to get Pyrite a Pupachino from Dutch Brothers.

Now that we have talked about flowers and turkeys and what not, let me get to that cup of sugar. My name is Scott. I like to write. Some say I am good at it. I have my own way at looking at the world and how each of us seeks life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I hope you enjoy my stories.

I want to take a quick moment to say thanks for all those that encouraged me to continue writing.  Serendipity, thank you for always finding me at the right time. Just sayin'...
